French Open 2018 Mens’ Singles Winner Tip

Here’s our French Open 2018 Mens’ Singles Winner Tip for the 2nd tennis major of the year, which will see a winner crowned on Sunday 10th June 2018 (at Roland Garros).

  • The French Open is of course the only clay court Grand Slam – clay is a slow playing surface which makes massive physical demands on the players.
  • Unlike in the Womens’ Singles at the 2018 French Open, in terms of realistic chances of winning, there’s only one standout contender for our French Open 2018 Mens’ Singles Winner Tip:
    • In 2017 Rafael Nadal (Spain) won a record 10th French Open Mens’ Singles title (this was his 15th overall Grand Slam singles title).
    • No other player, other than Rafael Nadal, has ever won 10 Singles titles at one single Grand Slam event.
    • Rafael Nadal won in 2017 without even losing a set – a feat he also accomplished two times before.
    • Rafael Nadal also won this title every year between 2005 and 2014 (with the exception of 2009).

Eurovision Song Contest 2018 Winner Tip

Which country is our Eurovision Song Contest 2018 Winner Tip? 2018 will see the 63rd running of this famous contest. The Semi-Finals will be held on Tuesday 8 & Thursday 10 May 2018, with the Final on Saturday 12 May 2018. Portugal won for the 1st time in 2017 (and as winners they will host the contest at the Altice Arena in Lisbon), when Salvador Sobral scored the most points with Amor pelos dois (Loving for the both of us).

43 countries will be singing (37 will be competing in one of 2 semi-finals, for 20 Final Spots), whilst the biggest 5 contributors to the EBU (France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom) and the hosts Portugal get automatic entry to the Final. That means there will be 26 countries singing in the final.

Before, we get onto our Eurovision Song Contest 2018 Winner Tip, here’s 2 countries that we don’t think have any chance whatsoever of winning, so please don’t be tempted to place a bet on them:

Anthony Joshua v Joseph Parker Victory Method Tip

Who are we picking as our Anthony Joshua v Joseph Parker Victory Method Tip? The big fight takes place on Saturday 31st March 2018.

London 2012 Olympic super-heavyweight gold medalist Anthony Joshua currently holds the heavyweight IBF, WBA (Super), and IBO belts. Joshua is fighting New Zealander Joseph Parker, in a bid to win Parker’s WBO heavyweight title (of course if Parker wins he will keep his belt, and get all of Joshua’s). This is an important fight for Joshua, as should the Briton win the WBO belt, he only needs one more belt to achieve greatness. He will likely be looking to put all his belts on the line, to try and add the WBC heavyweight belt to his collection. This would mean potential 2018 SPOTY contender Joshua would become the 1st undisputed heavyweight boxing champion of the world since British-Canadian boxer Lennox Lewis.

On the face of it, both boxers have great records as neither of them has ever lost a fight. Their combined record coming into this bout is 44 wins and 0 losses!!!

French Open 2018 Women’s Singles Winner Tip

Which player have we picked for our French Open 2018 Women’s Singles Winner Tip? The French Open (from Roland Garros) is the second tennis major of the calendar year (the first was the Australian Open), and will run from Sunday 27th May to Sunday 10th June 2018. In 2017, Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko defeated Romania’s Simona Halep 4-6 6-4 6-3. Ostapenko became the1st player from Latvia to ever win a Grand Slam. She was also the 1st unseeded player to win the French Open, since 1933.

Since Justin Henin won for the 4th time in 5 consecutive years in 2007, this event has been unpredictable:

  • 7 different players have won the 9 Finals played since.
  • Only Maria Sharapova (2012, and 2014) and Serena Williams have won twice in this period (2013, and 2014 – her 2nd and 3rd singles titles here as she also won in 2002).

Europa League 2017-18 Winner Tip

Which team is our Europa League 2017-18 Winner Tip? Previously known as the UEFA Cup, this competition changed name (and format) from the 2009-10 season.

The Round of 32 will take place on 15 & 22 February 2018, the Round of 16 on 8 & 15 March 2018, and the Quarter-Finals on 5 & 12 April 2018. EFL Cup Final 2018 Winner Tip: Arsenal are the value!

Are we tipping Manchester City or Arsenal as our EFL Cup Final 2018 Winner Tip? The Final of this competition (currently known as the Carabao Cup) will take place at Wembley Stadium on Sunday 25th February 2018. 92 clubs were eligible for this competition (all clubs in the Premier League to League Two), but just 2 remain. Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City overcame Bristol City, whilst Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal overcame Chelsea, in the 2 legged Semi-Finals. Last season Manchester United won their 5th trophy in this competition, by beating Southampton. However, the defending champions were knocked out by Bristol City in their Quarter-Final this season.

  • Manchester City have won the EFL Cup/League Cup four times (1970, 1976, 2014, and 2016), and they also lost the Final once (1974). Pep Guardiola should be especially hungry for this trophy, in his second season at Manchester City. Unlike at Barcelona and Bayern Munich, in his 1st season at Manchester City he failed to win a major trophy for his new club – which would have been a major disappointment for a manager of his calibre (who is considered the best in the world by some). Victory in the Final of the League Cup would be his first ever major trophy for an English club. Guardiola’s Manchester City are still on course for an unprecedented quadruple of the Premier League (where they have a big lead), Champions League (where they are in the Round of 16), FA Cup (where they are in the 4th Round), and this competition (where they are in the Final). No English club has ever achieved this particular quadruple in a single season.

2018 Oscars Best Picture Tip

Which film is our 2018 Oscars Best Picture Tip? The 90th Academy Awards, which will give prizes to the cinema of 2017, takes place on Sunday 4th March 2018 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood (Los Angeles, California). Jimmy Kimmel will host for the 2nd year in a row. There will be 24 categories, including Best Picture.

At the 2017 Oscars, Moonlight was awarded Best Picture (eventually after an infamous mix-up with the envelopes), Damien Chazelle won Best Director for La La Land, whilst Casey Affleck (Manchester by the Sea) and Emma Stone (La La Land) picked up Best Actor and Best Actress respectively.

For the 2018 Oscars, nine films have been nominated for Best Picture:

  • Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri – Drama written/directed by Martin McDonagh. When her daughter is murdered but the police don’t seem interested enough, her bereaved mother (played by Frances McDormand) decides to place advertisements on 3 billboards to bring attention to the matter. Seven 2018 Oscar nominations, in total.
  • The Shape of Water – Romantic horror starring British actress Sally Hawkins, directed (and part written) by Mexican director Guillermo del Toro. A mute janitor finds an amphibious creature in a water tank at a laboratory in the 1960s. The Shape of Water’s thirteen total Oscar nominations in 2018 (the most any film received in 2018) is only one less than the all time record of fourteen (jointly held by 3 films).

Cheltenham Gold Cup 2018 Winner Tip, and the horses to avoid!

We have a Cheltenham Gold Cup 2018 Winner Tip that we would recommend.

The 2018 Cheltenham Festival (the 2nd richest horse racing festival in Great Britain, after the Grand National) will take place between Tue 13 and Fri 16 March 2018. Ruby Walsh has ridden the most winners during the Cheltenham Festival in recent years, with the most wins during each of the years 2013-2017 (as well as in 2004, 2006, and 2008-2011). Gordon Elliot was the top trainer (the trainer with the most wins) in 2017, whilst Willie Mullins was the top trainer from 2013-2016 (as well as 2011). The key races of the Cheltenham Festival will all be broadcast on itv.

The festival’s most famous & anticipated race is the Cheltenham Gold Cup (3.30pm, on Fri 16 March 2018) – a Grade 1 National Hunt horse race run over 3 miles 2.5 furlongs (22 fences to be jumped) for horses that are 5 years and older. In 2017 Sizing John won the Cheltenham Gold Cup (jockey: Robbie Power, trainer: Jessica Harrington), whilst in 2016 Don Cossack was victorious (jockey: Bryan Cooper, trainer: Gordon Elliot). However, the most famous winner of the  Cheltenham Gold Cup in recent years is undoubtably Kauto Star (jockey: Ruby Walsh, trainer Paul Nicholls) who won in 2007 and 2009 (Kauto Star finished 2nd in 2008). The 2009 win (over 2008 winner, and stablemate Denman – also trained by Paul Nicholls) meant Kauto Star became the 1st horse ever to regain the Cheltenham Gold Cup. The feature races on the other three days are the Champion Hurdle (3.30pm, on Tue 13 March 2018), the Queen Mother Champion Chase (3.30pm, on Wed 14 March 2018), and the Sun Bets Stayers Hurdle (3.30pm, on Thu 15 March 2018).

Champions League Winner 2017-18 Tip: Barcelona offer the most value!

We have a great Champions League Winner 2017-18 Tip! The first set of Round of 16 1st Legs takes place between Tuesday 13 – Wednesday 14 Feb 2018, and the second set of Round of 16 1st Legs takes place the following week (Tuesday 20 – Wednesday 21 Feb 2018). There are 5 teams we would consider that have a genuine shot of winning the trophy this season.

  • Pep Guardiola’s Man City already have one hand on the 2017-18 English Premier League title. Man City have received a favourable draw in the Round of 16 against one of the outsiders for the Champions League title Basel.
  • Bayern Munich are certainly one to consider, and they too have a favourable draw in the Round of 16 against one of the outsiders for the Champions League title Besiktas.
