DK Metcalf contract details: Former Seahawks WR inks 5-year, $150 million deal with Steelers after trade image

The Steelers traded for former Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf in a major splash on Sunday. Even though Seattle initially wanted a first and a third round pick for him, Pittsburgh got him for its 2025 second-round pick.

Metcalf was drafted in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He signed a three-year extension worth $72 million that began in 2023. Metcalf had one year left on his deal, which Pittsburgh now acquires. The Steelers also are giving the physical wide receiver an extension. Pittsburgh is signing him to a four-year, $132 million extension that will add to the one-year, $18 million that he had left on his last contract.

DK Metcalf contract details

  • Years: 5 years
  • Total Salary: $150 million

Seattle is blowing up its offense for 2025 and will have several new faces playing key positions. The Seahawks cut veteran wideout Tyler Lockett and Metcalf requested a trade. Seattle’s asking price was a first round pick and a third round pick, but they softened to a single second rounder. Pittsburgh answered the call and sent its 2025 second rounder.

Metcalf was desiring a massive payday and a warm weather trade destination. He won’t get the latter, but he gets the big contract he was looking for. Metcalf now has the largest total value contract for a wide receiver in the league. His deal averages out to $30 million per year which is tied for the fifth-highest in the league.

The extension portion of Metcalf’s new deal includes $33 million in average annual value, the most amount of money in a contract for the Steelers in franchise history. When the deal ends in 2030, the wide receiver will be 33 years old.
