Arsenal vs. PSV lineups, expected starting 11, confirmed team news, injuries: Gunners likely to rotate image

With the Premier League title race getting away from them, the Champions League is likely the main focus for Arsenal the rest of the season, but it won’t feel like that on Wednesday as they host PSV at the Emirates Stadium in the second leg of their Round of 16 matchup.

The Gunners hold an astonishing 7-1 aggregate advantage after punishing PSV goalkeeper Walter Benitez for a number of gruesome errors last week.

Thus, they will surely rotate the side to give key players rest ahead of the season run-in.

PSV are in a similar boat, but on the wrong end of the aggregate scoreline. They sit second in the Eredivisie table but are eight points adrift of leaders Ajax, giving them a fair bit of reason to consider waving the white flag in Europe to save up for the domestic stretch run.

The Sporting News runs through the latest team news and injury updates for both sides as the match draws nearer.

Arsenal vs. PSV lineups, predicted starting 11, team news

With the aggregate scoreline already well out of reach for PSV, this could be an opportunity for Arsenal to rotate the squad and give some players a rest.

It’s not clear who would be top of Mikel Arteta’s list for regulars to sit, but the likes of Jakob KiwiorOleksandr ZinchenkoJorginho, and Raheem Sterling could all see time off the bench as potential replacements. Martin OdegaardGabriel, and Jurrien Timber could all be candidates for rest.

Arsenal are still without Bukayo SakaKai Havertz, and Gabriel Jesus for quite some time. The latter two are likely out for the season, while Saka is hoping to return sometime after the coming international break.

Arsenal predicted XI (4-3-3, right to left): Raya (GK) — White, Saliba, Kiwior, Zinchenko — Jorginho, Partey, Rice — Sterling, Merino, Trossard.

Injured: Saka (hamstring), Jesus (ACL), Havertz (hamstring), Tomiyasu (muscle).
Suspended: None.

PSV are without USMNT forwards Ricardo Pepi and Malik Tillman, both of whom have been truly exceptional this season until going down. Pepi is likely done for the season after requiring knee surgery, but Tillman has some hope of returning before the campaign is concluded.

Also missing is former U.S. youth international Esmir Bajraktarevic, who has since switched to represent Bosnia & Herzegovina at the senior level. The January signing made just three league appearances before suffering an undisclosed injury.

PSV predicted XI (4-2-3-1, right to left): Benitez (GK) — Ledezma, Flamingo, Boscagli, Junior — Schouten, Saibari — Perisic, Til, Lang — de Jong.

Injured: Pepi (knee), Tillman (ankle), Bajraktarevic (undisclosed).
Suspended: None.
