When Fields was targeting Wilson at Ohio State, he threw for 1,201 yards and 11 touchdowns with a 133.0 passer rating. The tandem was a home run waiting to happen, as Wilson hauled in 22 receptions of 20 or more yards from Fields.

He beat Ohio State’s biggest rival, Michigan, in 2019 (the game was cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic). Fields finished third in Heisman voting in 2019 and was drafted 11th overall by the Bears in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Fields agreed to a two-year, $40 million deal with the Jets, presumptively making him a starting quarterback again after backing up Russell Wilson with the Steelers last year.

While Pittsburgh was interested in bringing him back for 2025, Fields wanted to test the open market. He now heads to New York, where he’ll look to bring some stability to the quarterback position after two tumultuous seasons with Aaron Rodgers.
